The Art of Rob Liefeld

Rob Liefeld is a comic book artist who created many of Marvel’s most popular characters, including Deadpool. His artwork is renowned for its unique, often polarizing style and has drawn ire from both fans and critics alike.

Liefeld has created a lot of X-Men characters throughout his career, some of which are widely recognized as his best work. Some of his most famous X-Men creations include Juggernaut, Domino, and Shatterstar.

Forearm

A long time ago, in a comic book far, far away, Liefeld introduced the character Forearm. He was a powerful guy with four arms. He would show up on the page grin cockily, bearhug someone, and whoop, there goes Forearm!

Forearm was a pretty awful character. He was just a strong guy with four arms who didn’t have much backstory or anything to make him interesting.

His art was a little wonky and his shadows didn’t always look right. But, for the most part, he was really trying to push the limits of his artistic skills.

Heroes Reborn

After the death of Mark Waid and Garney, Rob Liefeld was brought in to replace them on Captain America. The move was praised by Wizards and Hero Illustrated, and the series started seeing modest sales increases.

It was at this point that Rob’s artistic styles started to veer off from the dynamic compositions and dynamic poses that had become his trademarks. The book still had a lot of insane guns and shoulder pads, but he was making a conscious effort to ground his characters in reality, rather than relying on hatch lines and mammoth weapons like he did in the previous era.
