Captain America on Your Left

One of the best parts about watching Chris Evans play Captain America is that he’s a nuanced actor. That’s why the back-and-forth between him and his Avengers teammates — Black Widow, Hawkeye, Vision, Ant-Man, and even Bucky Barnes — is often so much fun to watch. Whether it’s dating advice or fighting tips, Cap and his friends are always joking around with each other — sometimes at their own expense.

This is all well and good when he’s working alongside his friends but what happens when Captain America himself gets beat down? That’s when you see his true colors. No matter what happens, he’s not going to give up. That’s a lot to ask of any human being, especially a superhero. But that’s what makes these characters so great. They’re all flawed, but they’re also courageous and dedicated to their cause.

After reversing the snap in AVENGERS: ENDGAME, Steve Rogers hands off his shield to Sam Wilson, who takes on the mantle of Captain America for the first time. In the final scene of the film, as he gives the shield to Sam, Steve says, “On your left.” It’s a reminder that no matter what happens, Cap is always with his friend, Sam Wilson.
