The Captain America Order of Movies

If you’re a newcomer to the MCU, watching all of its movies in order can be intimidating. To make things easier, we’ve put together a list of all the Captain America films and shows, ordered in release date.

The first of the MCU’s three solo titles, THE FIRST AVENGER puts a powerful emphasis on Steve Rogers’ origin story. By establishing the mantle of Captain America as a symbol of freedom, rather than a tool of the government, this film lays the foundation for the rest of the franchise.

Though the movie deviates from its comic book source material in some ways (Disney’s live-action version of the character, starring Dick Purcell and titled Captain America, used a revolver instead of a shield), it does a good job of establishing Rogers’ strength and conviction. It also sets up the future of the series, with Samuel L. Jackson and Coulson already present.

Aside from a few archival footage cameos in Black Widow and the Disney+ series Loki, this is the only project where Chris Evans plays Captain America in original film footage. It’s the best of the bunch, with an excellent balance of action sequences and characterization. Highlights include the moment where Cap and Howard Stark figure out his shield, and Peggy Carter’s heartbreak at losing contact with him. It also marks the debut of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, who would become a mainstay in the MCU. It’s a perfect start to the saga.
