After the disappointing Thor: The Dark World, Marvel Studios is back on the right track with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, this superhero sequel balances well choreographed action scenes with deeper themes and interesting characters.
Chris Evans is still in fine form as Captain America, and he and Scarlett Johansson deliver some of the most snarky banter we’ve seen in the MCU yet. Robert Redford’s role as a higher-up at SHIELD adds an homage to 1970s thrillers like Three Days of the Condor, while UFC welterweight Georges St-Pierre plays Batroc the Leaper, an enemy of Cap and Nick Fury.
The cast is rounded out with veteran actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, who has been a fixture in the Marvel Universe for over a decade and has appeared in several critically acclaimed films such as Goodfellas and Pulp Fiction. He has also lent his voice to some animated features including The Incredibles 2 and Django Unchained.
Robert Redford is a legendary Hollywood actor and has been a part of many successful films in his career. His character in this film reflects how people are willing to sacrifice their freedom and security for the betterment of society.
He has also collaborated with director Spike Lee in several iconic films such as Goodfellas and Django Unchained.
In addition to a strong cast, Captain America: The Winter Soldier also features a number of memorable cameos by several Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes. We especially liked Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Peggy Carter’s granddaughter, Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp).
