How the Captain America Outfit Has Changed Over Time

If your little one is a fan of the Avengers and you’ve been trying to get them to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier then they may be keen to try their hand at dressing up like the blockbuster hero. The good news is that we have a range of officially licensed costumes from the movie so they can be all set to join the team.

While he’s definitely still the scrawny guy from Brooklyn, his appearance has changed quite a bit over the years. His classic red, white and blue outfit has been updated for modern times and his look continues to be an icon of American patriotism. Whether it’s the USO suit in The First Avenger or his circular Vibranium shield from Civil War, each suit has its own distinctive style.

In the past, Steve Rogers’s costume has been inspired by his WWII propaganda films and, when he was brought back to life after being frozen in ice for decades, Agent Phil Coulson had input into his suits design. As a result, the original Captain America wore a classical looking uniform for his first battles with the bad guys. This included a combat jacket and pants, a blue USO chorus girl helmet and a heater shield – all of which were designed for him by Howard Stark.

After he proved himself in the field, Steve Rogers was given a new uniform that featured carbon polymer. This was a more advanced suit than his USO version as it had holsters and pouches plus a wingless mask. It was also adorned with his circular Vibranium shield that completely absorbs vibrations.
