Captain America is one of the most well-known superheroes to ever exist. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, he is the product of a World War II super-soldier experiment that granted him peak human powers and an indestructible vibranium steel shield. He is a symbol of the ideals of the American nation. This version of the character exists in the Ultimate Universe, which puts a modern spin on characters and allows them to kill, change their backgrounds, or even take permanent heel turns based on their personality.
This incarnation of Captain America is the strongest the Marvel Comics has ever offered, and he doesn’t come without a dark side. This version of the hero is much more violent than his mainstream 616 counterpart and he shows no mercy to his foes. He has a hard-line anti-Muslim attitude and he is a sexist and racist.
Writer Jason Aaron (Wolverine: Weapon X) and artist Ron Garney do an admirable job of writing a story that explores the essence of the hero and asks readers to consider his beliefs and values in the face of a brutal and violent conflict. The story is loaded with savage fight scenes that will please fans of the Ultimate Universe and fans of Jason Aaron’s gritty style. The figure looks great and features a superb sculpt (although the edging around the star on his chest is a bit sloppy). He is able to hold his shield in his hand or pop it into the port on his back. He has 31 points of articulation, which is a little better than the average figure in this line.
