Captain America is a superhero who lives in Washington, DC, and is played by Chris Evans. As a member of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., he’s the best at protecting the United States, and in this movie, he’s challenged with uncovering an ever-widening conspiracy. But as his team continues to fight the good fight, he also has to face an unexpected enemy.
The Winter Soldier is a supervillain who wants to kill Captain America. When Steve Rogers finds out, he hurls his shield into the Potomac, but the assassin manages to escape and kills him. During the course of the movie, the Winter Soldier resurfaces some memories, and Steve Rogers becomes the defender of the United States. He’s forced to face his biggest challenge yet: an assassin named “Winter Soldier” who’s been after him since he joined S.H.I.E.L.D.
Despite the lackluster critical reception of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the movie still has some praises and criticisms. In one article, writer Ty Burr and film critic Joe Morgenstern discuss the film’s positive and negative points. In another, Eric Goldman and Michael Wigler write about the movie’s impact on the character. The critics agree that the movie is worth seeing, but that it’s difficult to decide how much the Marvel franchise will endure for the foreseeable future.
