When you’re first starting out with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it can be confusing and overwhelming figuring out what order to watch all of the movies in. One of the easiest ways to break down the MCU timeline is by focusing on one hero’s movie series at a time, which makes this list of captain america movies in order the perfect place to begin.
The saga of the man from Brooklyn with the shield begins in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. In this wartime adventure, we see Chris Evans’ scrawny Brooklyn native get a jolt of Super Soldier Serum and transform into the adonis-like superhero fans know and love. From fighting HYDRA disguised as Nazis to falling for Agent Carter to being frozen in ice to be unfrozen decades later, Steve Rogers’ journey is one of the most important and exciting in the MCU.
After refusing to sign the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War and handing off his shield to Anthony Mackie, Steve retires from active duty and moves back to live with Peggy Carter in the present day (though, we can still see him fighting through some of his past adventures on Agent Carter). After half the universe gets snapped away in Avengers: Endgame, Cap reclaims his mantle and leads a Quantum-tech-powered mission to bring everyone back.
While Cap doesn’t appear in the film proper, he does make an appearance in Thor: The Dark World via Loki’s illusion. In the scene, Tom Hiddleston’s god of mischief asks Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian hero if he wants to have “a rousing discussion on truth, honor, [and] patriotism” before throwing Cap against a wall.
