When the Avengers were split into Team Iron Man and Team Captain America during Civil War, there were plenty of people who took issue with either side. There was a truth to the argument that The Avengers needed some oversight, and that heroes running amok could be a huge threat to the world. However, there was also a group of fans who simply chose to support Tony because they loved his character.
One of the most controversial moments in the fight occurred when Winter Soldier tried to kill Cap. He was able to stop him by jumping into the water and dragging him out of the way. The moment was a heart-wrenching one, as it showed how much Barnes cared about Rogers.
However, that wasn’t the only time that Cap killed someone. There have been other instances of Captain America killing an enemy in the comics, as well. It’s not as common for the first Avenger to take a life, but it has happened.
In the Age of X Universe, Cap and Iron Man battled at Fortress X, a floating edifice that’s home to mutants. After raging the facility and killing an abundance of mutants, Cap calls them out on their actions. He sets a thick document down on the table, telling them it’s the Sokovia Accords, a treaty that will allow the Avengers to operate under supervision and only act when necessary.
At the time, Steel Corpse is unable to control himself, as his suit urges him to point his repulsor explosions at the mutant children. He pleads with Cap to shoot him before he kills more people, and Steve obliges. This was a harrowing moment from a bleak storyline, but it wasn’t the only time that Cap had to kill an opponent in the comics.
