Avengers: Infinity War Dropped a Captain America Phone Number

The Russo Brothers were able to make many things happen in Avengers: Infinity War, but one thing that was not allowed to be implemented was a phone number for Captain America. This is a big deal because the directors wanted to give fans the opportunity to call and get a message from Steve Rogers himself, but Disney’s legal team got in the way of this fun easter egg.

The number, 678-555-8910, was supposed to be a direct line for the public to contact Steve Rogers and alert him of any national security issues or crises that were beyond the scope of conventional authorities. It was a toll-free number and based out of Brooklyn Heights, New York.

It was a great idea, and the fact that it could have actually worked is what makes this such a cool little detail from the film. It also shows how important New York is to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it is a vital part of so much of this franchise’s history and lore.

The 678 area code is for the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. That is where Pinewood Studios is located, and it is where a lot of the action in this series takes place. The number was a subtle nod to the importance of the city to the production process of these films, and it is a nice touch that also reminds audiences of one of the film’s more humorous moments. Seeing Tony Stark carry around a flip phone with his super high-tech Iron Man suit was met with a lot of laughter in the theaters when I saw Infinity War, and it certainly added to the sense of humor that this film has.
